The eternal city, still

About Rome

Rome doesn't preserve its history behind glass; it simply keeps living on top of it, parking scooters against two-thousand-year-old columns.

The Colosseum, the Forum, the Pantheon-monuments that would headline any other city-are just things you pass on the way to lunch. Fountains splash in every piazza, churches hide Caravaggios, and the Vatican holds a whole separate country's worth of art.

It's chaotic, loud and gloriously indifferent to your schedule, run by Romans who have watched empires come and go.

Eat cacio e pepe, fried supplì and a gelato by the Pantheon, and surrender to the chaos.
