Munich is Germany at its most comfortable and self-assured-rich, orderly and never far from a beer garden.
Grand squares and onion-domed churches give way to chestnut trees where litre steins land on shared tables in the shade. This is the gateway to Bavaria, with alpine lakes and ski slopes a short train ride to the south.
There's a conservatism here, a fondness for tradition and lederhosen worn entirely unironically, alongside serious money and serious engineering.
Eat weisswurst before noon as the rules demand, with a pretzel and a wheat beer.
