About Kathmandu
Kathmandu hits every sense at once-incense and exhaust, temple bells and horns, a medieval valley city crammed into the modern day.
Golden pagodas and Buddhist stupas rise over tangled lanes where prayer flags cross the alleys and monkeys patrol the shrines. Most travellers come to fly into the mountains beyond, and the city is the staging ground for treks into the high Himalaya.
It's chaotic, devout and overwhelming, a place that has survived earthquakes and simply keeps on praying.
