About Bergen
Bergen huddles between seven mountains and the sea, a rain-washed wooden city that is the doorway to Norway's great fjords.
The old Hanseatic wharf of Bryggen leans its crooked timber gables over the harbour, a survivor of fires and centuries. A funicular climbs Mount Fløyen for the view, then the fjord boats leave for the dramatic Sognefjord and beyond.
It rains here almost constantly and the locals shrug it off, proud of their misty, hard-weather corner of the country.
Eat a bowl of creamy fish soup and a cinnamon skillingsbolle at the harbour market.
