Belgrade

City of Belgrade, Serbia

Where rivers and parties meet

About Belgrade

Belgrade sits where the Sava pours into the Danube, a gritty, unpolished city that has been razed and rebuilt more times than it cares to count.

A great fortress watches the confluence, Ottoman and Habsburg and socialist layers jostle in the streets, and nothing here is quite tidy. Its reputation is nightlife-floating clubs called splavovi line the rivers and don't slow down until sunrise.

The energy is raw and the welcome is fierce; Belgraders are blunt, generous and proud of their survivor's swagger.

Eat grilled ćevapi, drink homemade rakija, and let someone drag you onto a river barge at 2am.
