About Amsterdam

Amsterdam is laid out like a logical argument-concentric canals, gabled merchant houses, bridges doubled in still brown water.

Bicycles rule everything, ringing past flower stalls and museums stuffed with Rembrandts and Vermeers. The Golden Age wealth that built these houses came off ships and spice, and the tolerance that made the city rich still runs underneath it.

Beyond the stag parties and the red-lit lanes there's a gentle, domestic city of houseboats and tiny brown cafés.

Eat a herring standing up at a cart, a stroopwafel pressed warm, and a beer in a bar that hasn't been redecorated in a century.
